GGPoker's ELO rating system, inspired by the system used in chess, is designed to rank players based on their skill and win rate, rather than their bankroll.

This system is currently implemented in GGPoker's Spin & Gold games, providing a fair and competitive ranking method for players of all stakes. The system is named after its inventor, a chess player and physics professor called Arpad Elo.

When you play in Sit & Gold games at GGPoker, your ELO tier rankings will be visible to the other players at the table. This helps to give some clues about the skill level of your opponents, even if you’re never played against them before.

How the GGPoker ELO Rating System Works

Players start with an initial ELO rating of 1,200, which is a typical rating for players who are new to the game. The ratings are updated daily, incorporating the latest results from the previous day's play.

ELO points are adjusted after each game based on the player's performance and the ratings of their opponents. Winning against higher-rated opponents yields more points, while losing to lower-rated opponents results in a larger number of points being deducted.

It is not possible for players to predict the precise changes in their scores, as the system uses a complicated formula that is based on the scores of opponents. While the original ELO ranking system was devised for a two-player game (chess) it is more complex when applied to three-player Spin & Gold poker games.

    ELO Ranking Tiers at GGPoker

Players are assigned to a ranking tier when they reach specific points targets. This tier is displayed to other players when you take part in a Spin & Gold game.

    GGPoker ELO Rating
There are seven rating tiers, which are as follows:

    • E (Starting tier) – 1,200 rating
    • D – 1,500 to 2,000 rating
    • C – 2,000 to 3,000 rating
    • B – 3,000 to 4,000 rating
    • A – 4,000 to 5,000 rating
    • Master – 5,000+ rating
    • Grand Master – Reserved for the top 100 players on the site

Once a player reaches a certain tier, he or she cannot be demoted from that tier, except for the Grand Master rank, which is reserved for the top 100 players and can change based on current standings.

Even though the rating level does not go down, the numerical rating does fluctuate. This means you could potentially have a score that is below your current tier, should you have previously achieved a score high enough to move up rank, but have since fallen back again.

    GGPoker Promotions Involving ELO Ratings

ELO Challenges in Prop Bets: Players can create ELO challenges where they set a target ELO rating to achieve within a specified timeframe. You can wager on whether the player will meet this target.

These challenges are customisable in terms of duration, target ELO rating and number of participants.

Spin & Gold ELO Leaderboards: GGPoker uses ELO ratings to create leaderboards that encourage competition among players.

High performers can earn recognition and sometimes additional prizes or rewards through these leaderboards.
